The aim of the Digital Storytelling Programme is to empower different groups within local communities to tell their stories. By creating digital stories from diverse backgrounds, this project creates cultural cohesion and dialogue, while encouraging minority communities to come forward and share their experiences and knowledge, as well as focussing on universal human issues that act as a unifying force. Through this, FYA will use its expertise as a media house, and enhance its existing platform from which stories can be shared, and digital media skills can be attained.

Why join the course?

Fearless Youth Association and other community groups are working in partnership and have combined our forces, to create this twelve-week, free classroom-based course.

It will look at filmmaking theory and practice as well as radio presenting, and how they interact to produce good and even meaningful stories, helping you develop short films for digital platforms and short content for the radio.

Whether fact or fiction, there are many principles and processes that make a story work on film, so that what viewers see is more than just a sequence of events, but is instead a compelling narrative, which holds their attention, makes them think and keeps them coming back for more.

We will cover all aspects of production – from how to research your story to adding the finishing touches in the edit. The course will address many issues along the way, including critical thinking; story structure; style; genre; ethics; legalities; practical techniques for camera, sound and lighting; and more.
