Fearless Youth Association Music Project

FYA, in partnership with Youth Music, is supporting young Nottingham artists to develop their skills through the Fearless Youth Collective and giving them a platform to increase their confidence in performing live and giving them exposure.

 

FYA will continue to hold bi-annual music events to support the music community in Nottingham and give opportunities to the growing number of young people pursuing a career in music.

The Fearless Youth Collective is a 10-week training programme developed to give young people a wide range of experience and practical skills in music creation and production. The sessions are held weekly and are 2 hours long in small groups allowing our tutors to best support the young people. The sessions cover topics such as:

  • Beat Making
  • Using FLStudio
  • Songwriting
  • Music Theory
  • Recording and Vocal Techniques

The sessions are led by two of our tutors, each having years of experience in music production. One with a focus on the sound production side and the other with a focus on song and lyric writing.

The programme is free and open to young people aged 16-30 living in Nottingham. All equipment that is needed is provided and participants receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

FYA Music Fest March 2023

We held a music event on the 31st of March during Youth Music’s Give a Gig Week. The music event was free for all to attend and we had 16 artists perform. All performers were paid and were mainly young and local to Nottingham.

We brought together an evening of artists, fans, and local communities across the city, raising awareness of young people’s careers in music and amplifying grassroots music projects, at Marcus Garvey Ballroom.

I don’t do it for the money I do it because I enjoy entertaining people! 🙂 I’ve been writing/performing since I was 12 and I’ve always had a love for music.

RAE REMELL

Music is something that feels natural to me its a creative process if i’m not making music i’m usually creative in other fields to stay busy. Making music and writing songs isn’t thinking - its more a feel. Thinking is like walking against a river current whilst feeling the music is riding the wave.

VEEUDA

“Rhythm and blues” as we understand it today most often describes a style of music that developed after World War II that combines jazz, pop, gospel, soul and many other genres of amazing music. I would like this, my music to make you feel what i feel when writing these songs, but to also take you back to history while hearing this music. It is a combination of everything we love and hate and that is why I love sharing my music, my colour with the world. Hear my soul.

KAMAR DUPREE

I've been doing music all my life! It allows me to express my emotions in ways I wouldn't be able to speak about. My art represents real life for all classes of people from the highest class to the lowest Everyone relates to love, trying to make it, hustling , partying, and self motivation and I feel my music provides all the above.

ASHLY SONG

Ashly Song is a talented singer-songwriter and musician hailing from Nottingham, who specializes in creating captivating and atmospheric dark pop music. Born and raised in St Ann's, Ashly had a difficult upbringing, but he found solace and comfort in his passion for music, which he has been pursuing since he was young. Ashly's music is characterized by its haunting melodies, introspective lyrics, and moody beats that create a unique and emotional soundscape. As a songwriter, he draws inspiration from his own experiences and hardships, exploring themes of love, loss, and pain in his music.

MIKKY MESS

I breathe music, I have not gone a single day without It, I always make time for my craft as it’s what makes me happy and inspires the people around me to persevere through the hard times and come out on top. My music is very unique as I make RnB, Neo soul and rap music and try to mould them together to create a sound for my listeners to enjoy no matter which genre I pick.

Art feels innate to me, but it was forced out of me when I found myself in nothingness during lockdown. I didn’t start painting straight away-I’d say it began in summer 2021, but lockdown was a catalyst. I started producing a few years ago and started singing in 2022. The performances started rolling in, in January after my first performance with Acoustickle.

AHSEAN

AhSean is an independent Hip Hop artist based in Nottingham. You can describe AhSean's music as simply complex word pieces covering different life experiences and observations. AhSean is also passionate about offering a new perspective while inspiring and motivating his generation and generations after with his music. Influences include Reggae, Dancehall, Soul, RnB and life itself.

JAY CEE

Just put that in passionate energetic and working hard eveyday till I get to the top. I sleep eat an breath music.

DEJI DEJI ROSE

I do music because it’s a way to say the things that are normally hard to say, I feel like music gives me a voice and from young I’ve always made music more serious recently, but at a young age I would always make songs for my mum to cheer her up, music is in my heart and I want it to be in everyone’s heart, I enjoy the passion of being creative and saying the things I would normally keep locked in, I’m normally a antisocial person who hates conversations and music helps me break that barrier.

DJ HAZE

Entering the club scene at 17, Haze has been able to develop his experience from a young age. He has played some of the UK’s biggest venues as well as to 3,000+ people in Nottingham’s Market Square. Alongside, Top 10 Beatport releases featured on BBC Radio, Haze has currently got an upcoming European tour featuring events in Ibiza, Ayia Napa, Amsterdam and across the UK, as well as, his weekly residency at NG-One in Nottingham. Plus a range of festival lineup for the 2023 season following on from Europe 2023.
