Formed in 2016 by 12 young people who were out of education and not at work, Fearless Youth Association (FYA) has become a highly effective group in attracting and engaging young people seeking to turn their lives around. Supporting young people to engage with training, skills development, music and digital contents production and organising and managing events. We continue to support our young people through active engagement, supporting them to refrain from youth and gang violence, tackling knife crime while supporting them to become active, responsible, confident and mindful citizens.
FYA offers young people who are not in education, employment or training the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging, come together, learn from other young people, and build confidence and skills that can keep them away from violence on the streets. Working with young people who have been victims of knife and hate crime and supported by the community safety teams from the police and the city council, we help young people, mainly from BME communities, to become more confident and actively involved in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.
Having successfully run project for the past 3 years, we have seen some positive outcomes from this project. Some of the positive outcomes of this project have been positive reinforcement of achievements from young people who have previously struggled in educational settings as well as tremendous positive attitude towards employment and training changes on the young people. The one to one support offered to the young people has been extremely useful and we have more young people seeking our services.
The aim of FYA is to provide mentoring for young people in the Nottingham area by creating a safe space where we recruit members, sustain our momentum and growth, train members and other young people functional skills on digital media training programs, recording and social skills and increased ways of sharing and accessing information locally and in ways that is best suited for youths and young people.
FYA is aimed at educating young people about the dangers of carrying a knife by asking them to script and record a radio program aimed at other young people.
